Summary/Abstract: TEXT OF A LECTURE OF THE AUTHOR, DELIEVERD IN 1898 IN LEIPZIG. (PRINTED IN GERMAN FRAKTURA LETTERS – MAKE SURE YOU’LL BE ABLE TO READ IT!) FROM THE AUHTOR’S INTORDUCTION: I have set myself the task of dealing with the national aspirations of the Balkan peoples, i.e., the aspirations of the multilingual peoples of the Balkan Peninsula to unite their politically separated tribes into a political whole, into an independent, national state. … For peoples in general, the common language, but not origin in the ethnographic sense, is decisive for the feeling of togetherness. … Religion / denomination as a criterion of togetherness has faded today in favor of the nationality principle.
