Summary/Abstract: The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (hereinafter: the Convention) was signed in Rome on November 4, 1950 by the then 15 members of the Council of Europe - an international organization whose main goal is to promote human rights. The Convention entered into force on September 3, 1953. It was amended and supplemented by the so-called additional protocols to the Convention, fourteen of which have been signed to date, and all of which, except for the last one, have entered into force. New rights were either added to them or the supervisory mechanism established by it was changed. Today, all European countries except Belarus are bound by the convention.
