Summary/Abstract: Since the end of the conflicts in three municipalities of Southern Serbia in 2001, significant progress has been made in increasing the representation of the Albanian population in the local police. This progress has stalled recently. Interest in the inclusion of the Albanian national minority in the police forces has increased particularly since the end of the conflict in 2001 in the territories of the municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. The success achieved in establishing a multinational police force after the conflict has resulted in Albanians trusting the police more than in any other security institution in Serbia, even more so than by the ethnic Serb majority. Residents of this region trust the police in large numbers, more precisely 33% of respondents trust the police compared to residents in other parts of Serbia where only 19% of the total number of respondents have the same opinion (BCSP, 2013). The main motive for Albanians entering the police is employment.
