Summary/Abstract: Consumer protection and competition protection represent public policies that were created and legally shaped under the auspices of the European integration process. The Law on Protection of Competition from 2009 is fully based on the rules of European competition law, whereby, according to the progress reports of the European Commission, a high degree of compliance has been achieved to a significant extent. The Law on Consumer Protection from 2010 for the first time introduced consumer protection rules into our legislation based on European law, while later amendments to the law attempted to improve the mechanisms of their application. However, starting from the methodology that follows the process of Serbia's accession to the European Union, and consequently, the process of legal harmonization through two separate negotiation chapters, these two areas are often viewed separately - without noticing the mutual links that are of key importance for understanding market opportunities and circumstances on the market. Those links directly affect the position and rights of consumers, as well as possible violations of competition.
