Summary/Abstract: This survey represents the findings of a comprehensive assessment of the Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) situation in the Republic of Serbia. It examines the distribution of SALW; the impact of SALW on individuals, communities and the state; public perceptions of SALW and security; and the capacity of the state to control proliferation and misuse. Researched and written between August and December 2004, the report is based on interviews with government and law enforcement officials, academics, civil society representatives and international organisations; a nationwide SALW survey; focus group discussions with members of the public; and a review of data published by government, media and other independent sources.
