Summary/Abstract: The meaning of the term "social policy" is understood differently in professional literature and practice, despite the fact that this term was first used in the second half of the 19th century. A universal and generally accepted definition of this area of social life still does not exist, because the theory and practice of social policy differs from country to country. Social policy as a conscious activity of society that deals with the living and working conditions of people and social groups, during historical development, under the influence of socio-economic and political organization, changes its content, tasks and goals and develops with the change of economic, political and other factors in society. In addition to the essential reasons for the different understanding of the term "social policy", there are also evident formal reasons that appear as a consequence of the wealth or poverty of the language, so different contents are hidden behind the same terms and vice versa. Social policy as an asset of developed industrial societies is constantly changing. The concept and practice of the "welfare state" and the basic principles of its social policy are being re-examined. The integration of Western Europe has a significant impact on the welfare system and requires the clarification of different social policy models.
