Summary/Abstract: The book before the reader is the result of my many years of reflection on the controversy over the gusle and gusle practice that has been going on for the last three decades, and which has indirectly encroached on the private sphere, both on some of my intimate family memories, as well as on painful ones (which the war brought with it during the nineties), but also pleasant ones (acquired during my life in Spain, where many colleagues almost envied me for having direct access to Serbian epic as a native speaker). I followed this controversy to some extent out of professional curiosity, but at the same time I was aware that there were deeper, personal reasons that drew my attention to it.
