Summary/Abstract: According to Lewis Mumford, a city is simultaneously a geographical entity, an economic organization, an institutional process, a place of social action, and an aesthetic symbol of collective community (Radović 2017a, 32). As an extremely complex phenomenon, due to its social, economic, and demographic structure, it requires a complex and multidisciplinary research approach. There is no single comprehensive synthetic discipline that would offer a complex theoretical framework for studying the aforementioned concept. The history of urban settlements, the development of cities, urban structures, spatial patterns, as well as urban policies and problems, are the focus of research by both domestic and foreign geographers, architects, sociologists, ethnologists and anthropologists, philosophers, etc.
