Summary/Abstract: This study explores the cultural development of Novi Pazar from 1945 to 1991, emphasizing the role of amateurism and cultural institutions in shaping a socialist cultural identity in a multiethnic and multireligious community. Through institutions like the People’s and Workers’ Universities and the House of Culture, socialist policies promoted cultural inclusion, unity between Orthodox and Muslim populations, and wide access to the arts. Despite its ideological undertones, socialist cultural policy fostered community cohesion and cultural participation, providing a model that may still inspire future cultural strategies in the region.
