Summary/Abstract: Sixty-five years of work of the Institute of Social Sciences have been marked by stormy political and social changes. In that historically short period, there was a change in the social paradigm. The Marxist doctrine was supplanted by the (neo)liberal concept of development. In a period of six and a half decades, the Institute has gone from a "red academy" to an institution of national importance. In the middle of the twentieth century, the role of the Institute was intended to create a scientific elite suited to the ideas that made up the seductive, but it turned out, incompatible eclecticism of values of Marxist and liberal ideology. Recently, the Institute was evaluated as a center of national excellence in social sciences and at the same time embarked on a process of transformation that should equip it for the development of scientific policy in a liberal value environment.
