Summary/Abstract: Jewish family law is the area of law which rabbis most frequently address these days, and in the State of Israel it continues to play a significant role in regulating marriage and divorce between Jews. The book It is not good for a person to be alone presents Jewish law and its historical development in various Jewish settings. It covers issues relating to betrothal and marriage, including the importance of witnesses, the process of setting a wedding date, and certain marriage prohibitions.It discusses the status of Jewish mixed marriages, levirate marriage and conversion to Judaism, as well as how the concept of marriage developed from polygamy to monogamy. The monograph delves into many specific questions: What rules apply to members of the priestly caste, the kohen – kohanim? What does the ketubah marriage contract contain? Why is a glass broken during the wedding ceremony? What is the significance of the ring and blessings during the wedding? Can same-sex couples marry, etc.?
