Summary/Abstract: One of the biggest challenges for all actors in the Balkans, for its peoples and states and (un)solved problems, is the presence of Russia, a great, once super power, with its historical and new goals. There are, of course, other forces on the scene, as they always have been. In this context, this paper represents an attempt to shed more light on the current Russian foreign policy and geopolitical interests on the Balkan Peninsula, most often associated with traditional ones, based on the fact of very advanced, one could even say irreversible Euro-Atlantic processes in our region, by which it is somehow "fenced". Special attention is focused on controversial issues such as membership in the EU and NATO, sanctions, energy, security, Kosovo, the disputed state organization of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and even the name of the state of FYROM. In order to settle the remaining major issues in the interest of the people and countries of our region, it is important to know Russia, its politics, interests and positions from which it acts.
