Summary/Abstract: It could be stated that after several "years of solitude" followed by the economic crisis, the Western Balkans is gradually returning to the agenda of the main international, especially European, participants. Whether this news is favorable or not, it is not completely certain in advance, because, as is known, being on the table of international offices or in the main media news, can often mean some new crisis or a hint of destabilization. Nevertheless, we can state that, for now, the actualization of the topic of the position and political evolution of the Western Balkans is more an indirect consequence of various international events that are not exclusively related to the internal situation in the region than to the negative evolution of the overall international environment in Europe and beyond, such as the cooling of relations between the USA and the EU countries with Russia, political events in Turkey, the situation in the Middle East associated with conflicts and instability in Syria, Libya, Iraq, etc., the unpredictable challenge of new migrations, as and the emergence of a concrete threat of terrorism in numerous European countries. In the region itself, the signs of (in)stability are as usual mixed - from positive examples and progress in regional cooperation, to sometimes unexpected "eruptions" in the form of mostly short-term bilateral crises, but also long-term unresolved issues in the bilateral relations of some countries and entities in the region.
