Summary/Abstract: The text analyzes Serbia's economic relations with the European Union and Russia, economic relations between the European Union and Russia, as well as the implications of Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) on trade with Serbia. By analyzing Serbia's economic cooperation with the EU and Russia, as well as their mutual cooperation, arguments were made in response to the question of which strategic direction Serbia should move in the future. The conclusion is that Serbia's commitment to membership in the European Union (EU) is necessary, not only because of the assessment that full integration into the EU is the best framework for dynamic development, modernization and protection of the country's national interests, but above all because of the fact that the EU is Serbia's key trade and investment partner and thus one of the most important factors of the country's economic stability. Also, one of the most significant conclusions of the analysis is that Serbia's commitment to EU membership does not exclude the further development of economic cooperation with the Russian Federation, but on the contrary represents a precondition for increasing its scope. Based on the presented analysis and the proposed strategic direction of Serbia's movement towards EU membership, additional recommendations for the Government of the Republic of Serbia were defined, with the aim of improving Serbia's economic cooperation with the EU and the Russian Federation, and thus the long-term economic development of Serbia in the current geopolitical context in which the country is located: 1) Urgently develop a strategy and program of reindustrialization measures for the country; 2) Undertake all necessary measures to support agriculture in order to use the potential provided by the SAA and the Free Trade Agreement with the Russian Federation in the export of agricultural products; 3) Take specific measures to improve the volume of Serbian exports to the market of the Russian Federation, related to reducing the risk in trade with the Russian Federation due to the fact that the Agreement has not been ratified by Russia, as well as the construction of an efficient transport system along the Danube; 4) Undertake all necessary activities to diversify Serbia's gas supply sources through participation in the construction of the gas ring in Southeastern Europe.
