Summary/Abstract: Membership in the European Union has been Serbia's priority since 2000, and eighteen years later there is an indicative date - 2025 - when it can be achieved. If the goal is for Serbia to really become a member, all chapters in the EU accession negotiations should be opened and closed by the end of 2023, in order to sign the Accession Treaty then, and ratification in the member states can take up to two years. The question also arises - what kind of European Union will we enter? Great Britain's exit from membership will certainly have broader consequences, perhaps even on other member countries that would try to follow the British example.
