Summary/Abstract: What unites the idea of sustainable development and the theory of ecological modernization is the concept of innovation. Ecological innovation is an integral part of economy and technology. Without environmental business awareness, it is impossible to expect sincere corporate environmental responsibility. In this sense, entrepreneurship aligned with the ideas of environmental protection acquires a new dimension and becomes part of the idea and strategy of sustainable development, not only in theory, but also in practice. Aware of the importance of the development of entrepreneurship for economic and social development, the EU and the governments of many countries adopted numerous strategies for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurship, and created a number of instruments and measures for the development of this sector while taking care of the principles proclaimed in the Europe 2020 Strategy.
