Summary/Abstract: The annual export of food products of the European Union in 2016 reached a new record of 130.7 billion euros, which is an increase of 1.7 billion euros. This is the result of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU. Little is known about this policy in Serbia, which is plagued by negative stories and untruths about EU agricultural policy standards. From a legislative and institutional point of view, there are no dilemmas regarding the direction the country should take, which is to create a system compatible as much as possible with the EU in the field of agriculture and food safety. Of course, this adjustment must fully respect the specificities of Serbian agriculture and look for solutions that are functional and expedient. The specificities of domestic agriculture must be adequately respected in the legal and institutional solutions that the country will adopt and apply on the way to the EU, because otherwise there would be deep and far-reaching consequences for those parts of domestic agribusiness that cannot meet the conditions that apply in the EU, but were established for agriculture with significantly different performances than ours.
