Summary/Abstract: The migrant-refugee crisis, due to its scope and challenges as well as political consequences, represents a significant global and regional crisis. In addition to humanitarian and security challenges in the protection and support of migrants and refugees, who come to Europe via the Western Balkans, this crisis opens an opportunity to discuss the scope of migration policies and practices in European countries and Serbia. If migration is recognized as an inevitable feature of the times in which we live, and not necessarily a negative phenomenon, then migration management policies should be aligned with the real trends and problems of migrants, because restrictively defined policies that impose stricter rules largely conflict with the protection of basic human rights.
