Summary/Abstract: Serbia has to harmonize its security policy with the security policy of the EU, during the negotiations on accession to the European Union in Chapter 31 Foreign, security and defense policy. Since December 2007, Serbia officially defines itself as a militarily neutral country according to the existing military alliances. Neutrality in Serbia must be based on a principle and must be reflected in other strategic documents, which must also provide an answer as to how this status corresponds to the real security priorities of Serbia and its citizens. However, even this "insufficiently" defined concept of neutrality, theoretically speaking, does not represent an obstacle for Serbia to join the EU. However, a potential problem can be third countries, which may have an interest in Serbia not becoming a member of the EU and interpret the status of military neutrality as incompatible with membership. The debate held in Novi Sad was one of a series of twenty debates that the European Movement in Serbia and the Faculty of Political Sciences organized in seventeen other cities during 2017 and 2018, in cooperation with the European Movement in Serbia - Sremska Mitrovica and the European Movement in Serbia - Kraljevo.
