Summary/Abstract: The topic of national identity is comprehensive and always relevant, and especially in times of crisis, the questioning of the relationship between the nation and the wider community is expressed. The preservation of national identity in the context of the European integration of Serbia and the crisis in the EU was the topic of the debate held in Sremska Mitrovica in April 2017, as part of the "Europe for me" project. Prof. Dr. Budimir Košutić and Prof. Dr. Slobodan Samardžić participated in the conversation. They are also the authors of the texts in this first issue of European Volumes in which they gave their views on the topic. The debate in Sremska Mitrovica entitled "Serbia and the EU: Respect for national Identity" was the first in a series of 20 debates that the European Movement in Serbia and the Faculty of Political Sciences will organize in 17 other cities, in cooperation with the European Movement in Serbia - Sremska Mitrovica and the European Movement in Serbia - Kraljevo. The debates are part of the "Europe for me" project, which is financially supported by the Delegation of the European Union, with the idea of raising public issues important for Serbia in the process of European integration and providing verified and useful information about that process.
