Summary/Abstract: "The term ""sexuality education"" evokes a range of emotions and reactions. It can cause uncertainty, fear, and resistance. The topic becomes even more complex as gender and sexual diversity are increasingly discussed in society. The plethora of opinions, attitudes, and misinformation in public discourse can lead to the unfortunate conclusion that it is safest to avoid sensitive topics with youth. This monograph demonstrates that sexuality education is primarily an opportunity. It gives us the chance to lay the foundation for healthy relationships in young people's future lives and to protect them from risks. Its absence, on the other hand, can be the breeding ground for a range of problems. This book offers answers to the most pressing questions related to sexuality education: What does the term actually mean? Why is it needed? Should it be part of school or family life? What is the situation in Czechia, and what resources are available to teachers, parents, and other adults who interact with children? And most importantly, what should quality sexuality education look like? The publication also facilitates the understanding of gender and sexual identities, essential for providing quality sexuality education. It helps readers navigate LGBTQ+ terminology and brings insight into the situation of LGBTQ+ people in Czechia. It debunks common myths and misconceptions. It also presents findings from a research study on the perspectives of Czech LGBTQ+ adolescents and provides practical recommendations to make sexuality education truly beneficial for all children and adolescents."
