Summary/Abstract: In the 20th century, Russia experienced a profound societal split following the 1917 revolution, leading to the formation of two ideologically opposed entities: Soviet Russia and the émigré community known as "Russia Abroad." This internal division mirrored and influenced other European and Yugoslav conflicts, particularly during World War II, which some historians view as a "European civil war" between liberal, communist, and fascist ideologies. In Serbia and Yugoslavia, these ideological and national fractures resulted in multiple overlapping civil wars, causing deep internal conflict and massive civilian casualties, with the scars of these divisions still visible today.
