Summary/Abstract: Elections are a key element of democratic society, intended to reflect the will of the people, but history shows they are often subject to manipulation, both primitive and sophisticated. Electoral systems, such as those in the UK and the US, can distort representation, enabling legal yet potentially illegitimate outcomes that undermine democratic principles. The manipulation of election laws and procedures, including gerrymandering and vote tampering, remains a global issue, affecting both long-standing democracies and transitioning states, often shaped to benefit ruling parties under the guise of legality.
