Summary/Abstract: The “Openly about Public Spaces” campaign, initiated by Civic Initiatives in 2009, supports youth and civic groups in Serbia to identify, access, and revive abandoned public spaces for community use, often facing bureaucratic and legal challenges due to unclear property status and lack of institutional oversight. Despite systemic obstacles, the campaign has empowered groups across several Serbian cities, resulting in successful negotiations with local authorities and the revitalization of numerous neglected spaces. One of the campaign’s key achievements is an interactive online map that helps citizens locate and document potential public spaces for future use.
