Summary/Abstract: This book was published in 1938 by the German MALIK Publishing, House, run by Wieland Herzfelde in the London Exile from Nazism. EXTRACT FROM THE AUTHOR's INTRODUCTION: The fate of humanity is at stake. Plutocracy and fascism - that means the most terrible war of all time, deepening and perpetuating spiritual and physical misery. Democracy and socialism mean peace, rescue from sinking into barbarism, development of all economic and cultural forces. The peoples of all continents face this mighty historical alternative. And all countries are internally torn and weakened by them. Just not the USSR. There is no fascism there, their peoples are a cohesive unit in the face of impending dangers and in the struggle for the ascent of humanity. The freedom-loving circles of all classes in all countries feel this more or less consciously: workers and employees, craftsmen and farmers, intellectuals and tradesmen — in short, all those who keep the great organism of society alive. But far too few have a really clear picture of the nature and vital necessities of the Soviet Union. Not least to blame for this is Trotskyism, which, although poor in partisans, is able to cause confusion because bourgeois and often even social-democratic newspapers lend it their voice. It is all the more necessary to deal with Trotskyism. This book aims to make this task easier. I have endeavored to position myself on Trotskyism with factual arguments, because I am convinced that this is the best way to clarify things.
