Summary/Abstract: Issues concerning health and health promotion have been presented in numerouspublications on medicine, psychology, sociology, economics and education. In mostcases, they focus on theoretical analysis of health promotion concept which is subjectto comparison with current knowledge in a given discipline. The author of the publicationhas undertaken an attempt to implement the health promotion concept in socialeducation and to define the role of social pedagogue in local communities in increasingtheir health potential.The literature of the subject contains reflections of Prof. Ewa Syrek on this issue,this publication, however, presents description of theoretical aspects, as well as an analysisof health promotion-related actions, which have been carried out so far in Silesianprovince.Research activities should focus not only on acquiring knowledge on facts, phenomenaand processes, both for individuals and communities, but also on describing,explaining and forecasting them, searching for cause- and result as well as statisticalrelations or obtaining data for the purpose of creating theoretical pedagogical knowledgeand supporting practical aspects of pedagogy. The publication at issue serves allthese purposes.The book is intended for pedagogy students, especially of health pedagogy, but itcan also be useful for students of nursing or postgraduate students of education, sociology,and medicine dealing with public health. It is also addressed to representatives ofself-governments who implement pro-health initiatives in local communities and canbe helpful in planning and carrying out health-promotion related projects.
