Summary/Abstract: A new chance and a new challenge has opened for the European railways, which can not be utilized by rigid state companies, but enterprising transport companies in the liberalized and competitive internal market of transport services. An integral part of the liberalization is also supervision of regular competition between carriers. But how to assess the fairness of competition on such a specific market such as railway transport services? How to identify the dominant carrier and its competitors? How to determine the strength of competition, the preferences of passengers and the possibility of using alternative transport services? The book seeks to reply not only in the theory of competition, but also in practical applications and real experiences.
