Summary/Abstract: This proceedings contains a selection of papers from the interdisciplinary conference Life in Health 2018, which took place from 6 to 7 September 2018 at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University. The papers focus on the theory and practice in the area of public health protection and promotion. The findings presented are applicable in health education and general education of children and the whole population.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper analyzes the State Educational Program for Pre-Primary Education in Kindergartens with an emphasis on the Health and Movement education area. The purpose of the paper is to present the current state of implementation of health education and a healthy lifestyle education of children in the curriculum of kindergartens in Slovakia. It represents pre-chool age as the first period of institutional activity in the area of health education. It points out forms of health education in the day mode of kindergarten. It emphasizes the necessary to look for another possibilities for supporting the health and healthy lifestyle of the child population.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper presents the structure and content of first aid as part of health education in pre-graduate preparation of teachers at primary level of education. We analyze the state of first aid education at faculties of pedagogy in the Slovak Republic with a focus on the preschool and elementary pedagogy at the bachelor level of education in daily and external study. The paper provides a brief overview of the analysis of available information sheets of individual subjects at faculties of education with regard to education in the given field. We then analyze the ISCED 1 State Education Program with a link to the issue.

- Summary/Abstract:Peptic ulcers are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach, lower esophagus, or small intestine that usually formed as a result of inflammation caused by the bacteria helicobacter pylori. Vitamin B12 deficiency can be a common and often overlooked problem, the lack of B12 leads to neurological disorders and dementia. The symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are, however, very subtle and unspecific and can easily remain unnoticed. Medications used to treat stomach ulcers may cause harmful vitamin B12 deficiency, patients who took tablets known as proton pump inhibitors or histamine antagonists were more likely to lack enough vitamin B12, the reduction of stomach acid’s production by the anti-ulcer drugs is behind the effect. Researchers recommend that everyone who is taking stomach ulcer drugs on a regular basis for two years or more to check the level of vitamin B12 in their blood.

- Summary/Abstract:Smoking represents the most prominent preventable reason of mortality around the world. Tobacco use leads to adverse health, economic and social effects. It is considered to be a serious public health problem and it is the most important preventable risk factor especially for cancer, respiratory, cardiovascular and other diseases. Smoking also harms the intrauterine development of the fetus, causing a lower birth weight. Cigarette smoke can also be one of the serious causes of reduced fertility pair. Health effects of passive smoking are also important, but in this case, innocent victims suffer. The legal standards on this issue are very extensive and diverse. In this paper, we present effects of smoking on cardiovascular system and respiratory system.

- Summary/Abstract:Smoking can cause various diseases such as cancer, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other specific outcomes. Many of those diseases can be prevented by avoiding the exposure of both active and passive smoking. The factors that influence people to initiate smoking can be due to personality factors, family and culture, gender, environmental influences and the ease of obtaining cigarettes. Smoking cessation and allowing tobacco use only in special areas can prevent its’ health risks. Analyzing and monitoring the preventions and warnings of consequences of smoking can provide new useful knowledge to the research of issue. In this paper, we present components of tobacco smoke, nicotine and smoking addiction, risk factors of initiation of smoking during adolescence and interventions for smoking cessation and prevention.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with teaching educational area Man and health in primary schools. Based on the analysis of the school education programs of primary schools in the Pilsen region it monitors the extent to which the educational area Man and Health is integrated into the study plan, how it is distributed in the individual grades of elementary school, which educational contents are preferred by schools and which rather neglect and into which school subjects are incorporated. The article compares elementary schools that have set up a separate Health Education course in the curriculum, with schools that do not have this subject. The study is based on the recommendations of the Framework Education Program for Basic Education. In total 48 school education programs of primary schools in the Pilsen Region were analyzed. The results obtained are largely descriptive charakter and they evoke the need to carry out further research investigations during the doctoral study of one of the authors.

- Summary/Abstract:The following article deals with the problem of integrating security issues into the study programme of faculties training teachers in individual fields of education. The article brings an insight into the European Union, specifically the OSHA on health and safety education. Recommendations for integration into education with an emphasis on higher education are developed. A strategy of culture of safety and culture of health is introduced.

- Summary/Abstract:Burns of the teenager age are generally one of the most serious injuries. Above all, it is a severe electrotrauma and extensive burns in a group of teenagers. In this context, within the framework of the interdisciplinary cooperation between the Department of Special Education of the MU Faculty of Medicine and the Burning Clinic of Brno University Hospital, we organize a preventive education program focused mainly on teenagers at the second level of elementary schools, secondary schools and special schools.

- Summary/Abstract:Currently, the content of elementary education is being reviewed and this process should be completed by 2020. It is very difficult to define the content of elementary education for the educational field of Health education. It must be taken into account that the themes and the learning content of Health education overlaps with other educational areas, fields and cross-curricular subjects. The objective of the paper is to emphasise the problematic areas of existing proposals on the review of the educational content of Health education, and instigate discussion on this issue. Specifically, the paper describes specific review proposals concerning various themes for which the authors define problematic areas. In the final part the following conclusion is made: The educational area Man and the world of work is a suitable complement to the learning content on nutrition. An obvious overlap is between Health education and Natural history and Citizenship education. The authors believe that the comments will contribute to a high-quality review of the educational content of Health education.

- Summary/Abstract:Personal and professional notes about health and healthy lifestyle can be found in Masaryk´s work. The phenomenon of health was often directly and indirectly understood by Masaryk as a crucial indicator of the quality of human life in modern times, in the physical, social, mental and spiritual point of view. The aim of the paper is to present and interpret these notes in the effort to formulate a coherent concept of health in the intentions of Masaryk's thinking.
