Summary/Abstract: The subject of the study was financialization of the banking sectors of 28 European Union Member States. Financialization was defined as a long-lasting process, characterized by increase in the banking sector and its impact on the real sphere of the economy. The research includes variables describing the banking sector and the real sphere of the economy. The subjective scope of research on financialization included the Member States of the European Union and their banking sectors. The time scope of the research covered the period from 2008 to 2018. The main goal of the monograph was to present and assess the effectiveness of financialization the European Union Member States and their banking sectors using non -parametric methods: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Malmquist index. The study verified the main hypothesis that financialization understood as an increase in the banking sector negatively affects the economic growth of the European Union Member States in the period 2008–2018.
