Summary/Abstract: The book, originally published in 1920 in the USA, is an eyewitness account of the events that took place during the First World War in the borderlands between Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran, enriched with the testimony of other eyewitnesses. The author describes his fate, the fates of his family and of his ethnic group, the population of which, as a result of the massacres, deportations and starvation, shrunk to a third of the original count. Having escaped from his hometown of Edessa (Urfa), he served as a priest in prisoner-of-war camps of the Entente countries on the territory of Turkey, describing the camps in detail. The book, of eight publishing sheets after the translation into Polish, was enhanced by the editor with critical scientific back matter, encompassing an introduction, footnotes, an afterword, bibliography and indexes, spanning a total of four sheets. The original text was enriched with photographs and maps as well.
