Summary/Abstract: The protection against discrimination represents a significant point in the development of both international and national human rights agenda. The Republic of Macedonia has not yet adopted a comprehensive antidiscrimination legislation that guarantees explicitly the protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This text is a result of the analysis of the international legal framework for protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, carried out during the preparation of The Handbook of international standards for protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Handbook is envisioned as a tool that should incite judges, competent institutions, lawyers and activists to apply the international standards to their work, given that the challenge to protect the rights of all citizens implies consistent implementation of the standards for human rights protection of all groups without exception.
