Summary/Abstract: Starting from the cultural practice of the (self-)fashioning of early modern artists as ancient philosophers in Italy and beyond, this article focuses on the intermediality of the process. As an example, the various genres and media used by Giorgio Vasari to fashion Leonardo da Vinci as Aristotle will be specifically analysed. The contribution of the genres and media used to shape Leonardo as the philosopher is shown and their specific possibilities, potentials and limitations are explored. Ultimately, the study shows how the greatest possible (cultural-) historical evidence of the intended fashioning is generated through an interlocking of the various genres and media.
