Summary/Abstract: The article aims to present the legal framework of public media in Britain, which defines the public mission of the BBC, as well as the role of the media regulator Ofcom in its realization. The article explains the principles of television programming in BBC, which take into account the government’s requirements, the parameters of the Operating License issued by Ofcom, as well as the public need and interest. The hypothesis put forward is that the realization of the public mission is a function of all the normative requirements relating to the broadcasting methods of radio and television programs, their profiles, and characteristics. The public mission is actualized in the program schedule of every public service program and does not really fall within the operative control of the BBC.
