Summary/Abstract: The article discusses aspects linked to the creation, in specific discourses, of the image of Aliens, who are placed in opposition to those known as Our Own and belonging to a discursive community. The subject of the article are communication strategies used – from the middle of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century – in the Polish (Catholic) religious discourse, which served to build the image of the socialists. The article aims to examine the impact of the sender’s point of view on the communication strategies employed, determine the intention of their application, distinguish from the analysed texts the strategies that were used in profiling of the image of the socialists, as well as outline the characteristic features of these strategies. The subject of the research are selected Catholic sermons, published during the period under analysis and written by different priests. When analysing these strategies, the author employs research tools of linguistic pragmatics, axiolinguistics, discourse analysis and semantics. The discussion also covers the pragmatic and discursive dimension of the following strategies: axiologization, emotionalization, discreditation, enemization and demonization. The conclusions of the analysis indicate that the strategies used are subordinated to specific pragmatic objectives designed by the senders, such as the bolstering of the discursive community’s identity and its consolidation, among others. The image of a socialist and enemy constructed in the texts contributes to the strengthening of ideological and axiological aspects of community identity.
