Summary/Abstract: The paper is dedicated to a microhistorical approach of what significance the raise of a new school builiding could have for a rural community. In the history of Gvardenita village, this event is related both to the efforts made by Spiru Haret, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Public Education at that time and the support of local notabilities. The document discovered by us, signed by the local teacher, Ştefan Păunescu, invited to a better reflection upon the relation memory-identity-affective framework of education in the beginning of 20th Century Romania.
