Summary/Abstract: Domestic violence is one of the most often encountered topics in the public sphere lately, due to the many cases faced by the authorities, who most often fail to find appropriate solutions in order to stop such situations from occurring in the future. Criminal law includes a number of provisions that are in line with international standards for the protection of family members, but it also includes a number of shortcomings, which require prompt intervention by the legislator. There are currently a number of discussions to address these shortcomings, but without the rapid and clear involvement of responsible stakeholders and civil society, cases will increase and the judiciary bodies will continue to be powerless in some cases.
