Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is to present the most important transformations in travel behaviours of citizens in urban areas in Poland in the last 50 years. The first complex traffic survey were conducted in 1969, so 50th anniversary of such researches seem to be a good occasion to the summaries. In analysed period important socio-economic and political transformations could be observed. Such critical junctions as the fall of communism, accession to the European Union, etc. had important role in changing mobility patterns of inhabitants. In our article we collected and compared the results of traffic surveys conducted in Polish cities in the last 50 years. Based on this database we were able to identify the most important transformations of travel behaviours. Also the origins of these changes were investigated. Finally, we discussed the possibilities of the use of mobility data and advantages of regular monitoring of travel behaviours in urban areas.
