Summary/Abstract: This contribution is a sociolinguistic study on communication made on COVID-19 by different social and professional layers of Senegal in Wolof. It aims at questioning the strategies to raise awareness, encourage prevention and name the pandemic in the Wolof language. Based on the communication of the Senegalese authorities reflected by the journalists and based on the initiatives of non-governmental organizations, cultural actors and linguists, we propose a transversal reflection on languages and vectors of awareness. In addition to the study of the modes and language of communication, and also the awareness of actors, graffiti artists, rappers and musicians, our paper shows the lexical renewal that the COVID-19 has generated in the Wolof language. It also examines the explanatory dynamics specific to the statement made in Wolof by the Ministry of Health and Action in order to reach its target. The contribution then analyses the reflective capacity of the language and the communicative response strategies of its speakers.
