Summary/Abstract: In a review article about Miklós Bánffy’s The Enchanted Night, a collection of short stories published in English translation, the author identifies as the main strategy of the translator an attempt to offer a view of Bánffy as a contemporary writer. Besides characteristics in the narrative that are stressed through selection, a special focus on the female characters is also discussed as a possibility to see Bánffy as a contemporary writer.
