Summary/Abstract: The article gives an overview of the approaches offered in different theoretical frameworks (Generative Grammar, Relational Grammar, the Lexical Rule Models, Construction Grammar and the Lexical-Constructional Approach) to account for alternations in argument realisation (diatethetic alternations) such as the active vs passive alternation, the ‘spray/load’ type alternations, dative alternations etc. The final part of the article presents certain considerations speaking in favour of the derivational view.
