Summary/Abstract: The invariant meaning [uncertainty] in the Russian and Bulgarian languages is expressed by linguistic means of various aspects. The constructions with a compound component modal particles in dialogues and everyday speech as one of the constituents of the functional and semantic field “uncertainty” are distinguished by varied modal meanings – doubt, supposition, probability, fear, motive for an answer. They reveal the specificity of thinking of both language groups.
