Summary/Abstract: in the Copper-Basin, like on the territory of the whole country, the young protested against the reality of the Martial law. the most common forms of the protest included, among others: establishing secret organizations which dealt with distribution of bulletins, painting symbols of freedom and slogans on walls of buildings, issuing underground brochures and materials. in the area of the Copper-Basin, especially within the first few months, there were set up several organizations of the above-mentioned character, among others: Niezależny Związek Młodych Polaków „Przyszłość” (independent union of Young Poles „Future”), Młodzieżowa Organizacja Wolnej Polski (the Youth Organization of Free Poland), or tajne Stowarzyszenie antykomunistyczne (Secret anti-Communist association). the young manifested their dislike of the authorities at meetings organized in schools with officers of the Polish army, party representatives or special agitators. despite the attempts on the part of the authorities at convincing the public opinion that all those actions were instigated by members of the independent Self-Governing trade union „Solidarity”, the initiatives were fully spontaneous and independent, resulting from patriotic stimuli, out of the need to join in such historical events which the fate of the Polish nation depended on so heavily.
