Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the representation and implementation of the environmental protection topics (directly and indirectly) in primary school. It singles out and analyses direct contents of the environmental protection that are detected through the examination of the operational curriculum of primary schools in the West Herzegovina Canton. Methods used in the research were: the method of content analysis (qualitative and quantitative), methods of analysis and synthesis, the comparative, descriptive and compilation methods. The research indicates to insufficient presence and implementation of ecological contents, which significantly depends on the motivation and willingness of teachers to integrate them into the teaching process. The realization of the importance of ecological issues implies development and formation of moral attitudes, which directly influences the development of ecological awareness of students. The aim of this research is to determine the presence of environmental protection topics in the curricula of the natural science group of subjects, to determine the level of implementation of the ecological education in primary schools, their cross-curriculum linking and to detect cause-and-effect links between fragmented ecological contents. A holistic approach to the integration of the environment protection topics is the prerequisite for higher quality education and is an essential contribution to the contemporary teaching process.
