Summary/Abstract: The article presents the theoretical contributions of Al. Teodorov-Balan in describing the category definiteness/indefiniteness in the „Nova balgarska gramatika“ – one of the first theoretical grammars in the Bulgarian language, published in 1940. The major contribution to the interpretation of a category consists in its presentation as consisting of two grams with meaning definite and indefinite, and indefinite forms under certain conditions can have decisive significance; the precise description of the spoken and written variants of the defining morpheme; defining member morpheme morphologically as a suffix; the perception that the attributive use of edin is of indeterminate meaning.
