Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to draw attention to certain major aspects of the study of neologisms in Spanish. The process of neologization is related to its causes, its formation and its typology. Neologisms represent the object of research of both the field of linguistics and that of culture and civilisation. The borrowing, as a neonymic process, is fairly widespread. Throughout its evolution, Spanish has borrowed Arabic, Germanic, Italian, French and English terms. The distribution and frequency of Anglicisms raises in Spanish, as well as in other languages, the same problems, ranging from need to non-discriminatory invasion. It is imperative for present-day Spanish to preserve its linguistic unity, to prevent the fragmentation of a language with a very high level of cohesion.
