Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to reveal the identification of common features in the work of Ukrainian avant-garde artists, which have the character of impressionism. Methodology of the study employs historical-logical, comparative methods, formal analysis and method of interpretation. Scientific novelty of the research consists in the role of impressionism in the formation of the creative manner of such artists of the Ukrainian avant-garde as O. Bogomazov, D. Burliuk, K. Malevich, O. Exter was first explored in the article. Conclusions. Experiments in the spirit of impressionism and post-impressionism helped the representatives of the Ukrainian avant-garde to free themselves from the method of repetition of the full-scale image towards the free transformation of the pictorial sensation and construction of the work with the help of purely pictorial elements, discarding the plot, literature, instructive character and many other layers. Impressionism was the first step in freeing painting from the boundaries of material form.
