Summary/Abstract: The paper provides a cognitive approach to the metaphor of conflict in political communication and is based on the idea of Lakoff & Johnson who claim that metaphors allow us to define reality in metaphorical terms and to act accordingly. This allows for the reinterpretation of a field (in our case the political one) in terms of another (that of fight, of conflict). We understand the political field through the field of conflict and this is precisely what insures the cognitive force of the metaphor.
