Restoration Methodology of an Old Book with Parchment Coverings, Year 1520, from the Holdings of Library of the Romanian Academy in Cluj-Napoca

Summary/Abstract: The presented volume was printed in 1520 and bound into a manuscript fragment copied in the XIIth century. Held by the Library of the Romanian Academy in Cluj-Napoca, it is part of the FRAGMED Project, that tackles restoration of some medieval codex fragments made of parchment, of the host books, and their presentation within an exhibition. The codex fragments restored within the National Centre for Conservation and Restoration of Old Books Alba Iulia can also be discovered in the digital version on the specialised portal, Fragmentarium. Restoration methodology dealt with detaching the parchment covering from the bounding to may be legible as well as restoring the remained bounding and the paper of the text block.
