Summary/Abstract: This paper brings together three musical personalities who were active in the Dalmatian town of Split during the first three decades of the 17th century. They were the music theoretician Giorgio Alberti, the composer Tomaso Cecchini, and the composer, organist and maestro di cappella Ivan Lukačić. Their activities in music composing, performing, and teaching, contributed to the transferrence of early Italian Baroque style into Dalmatia. There are strong indications that they could also have been part of broader socio-political and cultural movements within the turbulent events surrounding Catholic church policies on the alleged Protestant inclinations of the then Archbishop of Split, Marcantonio De Dominis.
