Summary/Abstract: L.M. Arcade (b. July 13th, 1921, Vaslui – d. September 4th, 2001, Paris) is one of the emblematic figures of Romanian literary exile. Nevertheless, the activity he undertook as prose writer, dramatist and cultural animator is scarcely known in Romania. Our paper, entitled "Forms of Balkanism in the prose of exile. L.M. Arcade", aims at underlining the different facets of exile. The exile may be regarded as an organisational vector, thus generating an aesthetically surprising work, both through the way in which the social is organised at the fictional level and through the almost forced peculiarity of the Romanian language. At the same time, the present paper starts from the hypothetical link between Balkanism and Exile that can only be partially proven by the fall of the Iron Curtain. It is well known that L.M. Arcade presents throughout his work the topoi of Balkanism which, from the forms of language to the behavioral hypostasis, outlines an obsessive-debunking atmosphere. The author of the famous “Histoire des Tziganes”, a leading exponent of the Romanian literary exile, does nothing but use these forms, in order to finally highlight a caricatured Balkanism.
